Ormesheim in Germany

Ormesheim means 'Orme's Home'

Ormesheim has been a settlement since the Frankish colonisation in the 6th century, it is uncertain when the name Ormesheim was adopted.

Ormesheim lies in the Southeast of Saarland, in a delightful valley with meadows, fields, and forests.

As with many towns and villages throughout Europe, Ormesheim was devastated during World War II. Many of the old buildings were destroyed and despite the entire population being evacuated twice there were many civilian casualties. The town was rebuilt and became a thriving community again, there are now more than 11,000 inhabitants.
